What Young Women Want Men to Remember in 2011

On International Women's Day 2011 Open Clasp went to Sunderland, performing BlueGiro and running a drama workshop with 75 young women. The workshop looked at risks and responsibilities around sexual violence. They felt that while they, young women, are constantly told how to act and behave to protect themselves from rape and sexual violence, young men don't recieve the same pressure to control their behavior. They told us what messages they would like to give to young (and older) men in order to keep all women safe. You can read their messages here.
International Women's Day is a day to celebrate the amazing achievements of women, to recognise the progress towards equality since the first IWD 100 years ago, and to ask ourselves what still needs to change. Open Clasp was inspired by the passion and enthusiasm of the young women in Sunderland, and would like to thank them for inviting us to spend IWD with them.
We have been running the workshop with other groups during the BlueGiro tour, and will be adding their voices to the website too, so please keep checking back. And don't miss your chance to see BlueGiro - less than two weeks of the tour left!
